This partnership for E-book started in Cannes Film Festival 2017 in May. Director Olivier Assayas and producer Charles Gillibert were introduced to Ly Nha Ky as a Vietnamese Tourism Sponsor and Representative through the promotional panels across the red carpet. Touched by her love and enthusiasm for the country, these two famous and powerful characters have come to talk and support her when the public was spreading doubts about her work. And in her birthday party in July 2017, Charles Gillibert spent time to fly to Vietnam and wish her happy birthday.
For many time, Ly Nha Ky shared that meeting director Olivier Assayas Olivier Assaya was such an honor for her. Not only a famous director, screenwriter and film critic, he was also Maggie Cheung former husband. His career was marked with 5 movies nominated for the Golden Palm of Cannes 2000, 2002, 2004, 2015, and 2016. Among them was Après Mai (Best original script in Venice Film Festival 2012), Sils Maria (nominated for Best Director and Best Screenplay in Cannes 2015). His newest movie “Personal Shopper”, released in Viet Nam as “Tro Ly Thoi Trang”, had brought him the title of Best Director in Cannes 2016.
In 2011, Olivier Assayas was invited to be one of the judges for Cannes Film Festival. Famous for his sophisticated movie making, he always brings out the French romantic ideal into his movies, and he is a director of great success guarantee regardless of the genre. After 40 years in the business, Olivier Assayas is one of most influential French director in the world. As a former husband to Maggie Cheung, he helped her rise to the title of Best Lead Actress for the movie Clean that he directed in 2004.
These two famous moviemakers expressed their great impression of Ly Nha Ky as a young and beautiful sponsor for Cinéfondation Foundation. She was absolutely stunning on the red carpets of Cannes with many of her luxurious outfits.
The three had meetings prior to production in Paris during autumn. Through LYNK group, our former Tourism Ambassador will be the youngest producer in an Olivier Assayas movie. It was announced that the movie will be called E-book, and the shooting time will be this year November and December, expecting to be finished by Christmas 2017. The main character will be played by the gorgeous and talented Juliette Binoche – who did work with director Olivier Assayas in “Clouds of Sils Maria” – a movie nominated for the Golden Palm of 2014. Juliette Binoche is famously known in Vietnam from “The English Patient,” the movie that brought her an Academy Award for Best supporting Actress.
For the producer Charles Gillibert, he is considered as one of the most powerful producers in Europe. He is Olivier Assayas’s partner in many projects such as “Summer Hours” (2007), “Something in the Air” (2012), “Clouds of Sils Maria” (2014) and “Personal Shopper” (2016). Including the movie Mustang, nominated for an Oscar of “Best Foreign Film”, and won 4 titles in the Cesars Award in France.
The other main character will be played by Guillaume Canet, husband to the French rose Marion Cotillard. Guillaume himself is also a director and actor, he won the title Best Director (the Cesar Award) for the movie “Ne le dis à personne”, and Best Lead Actor (the Cesar Award) for “La Prochaine fois je viseral le coeur by Cesdric Anger”. Us Vietnamese moviegoers knew him in “The Beach” by Danny Boyle, starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Guillaume Canet was married to German beauty Diane Kruger from 2001 to 2006. Since 2017 he has been together with Marion Cotillard. The have 2 kids and live together happily ever since.
This is a great turn of event for an actress – businesswoman reaching for the world from such a small country like Vietnam.
