Meeting Nha Ky after the hard days at the film studio Shanghai, she seems gaunt and seedy though the lovely smile is always on her lips. She told that after the breakdown of shrapnel throwing into her eyes that has to be hospitalized and carried out the minor operation and her left eye could not see clearly”. “She just fell down at the company because of unclear vision“ – while saying, she shows her hurt arms to the journalist.
What is the reserved thing of the film that made you sacrifice yourself for the art?
I do not think this is not the sacrifice. All are risks and nobody wants. Taking part in “ Shanghai”, I am very honor as I could be closed to great movie stars ofHollywood such as Cung Loi, Chau Nhuan Phat, John Cusack, Ken Wataneba, ect… “ Shanghai” is a film invested by Weinstein film company ( USA) with the cost up to 42 million USD and not everyone has a chance and luck to reach this film.
As we know that, in this film besides Nha Ky, there is the participation of Vu Thu Phuong model. The information that Vu Thuong Phuong plays the role in “Shanghai” has rumbled in Internet, but why do you declare that you are one of two people selected for this film up to now?
I only want to say that this is the best and most suitable time to disclose. I did not used to foretell anything that I has not completed. I had 13 days shooting and working in Thailand with the film delegation. My role was finished so now I decide to disclose.
Could you say more clearly about the chance that you have the role and some characteristics about your character in “ Shanghai”?
As I mentioned before, I reached the art by chance and this time is not execeptional. I was selected and invited by Mr.Harvey Weinstein (chairman of the film company) when I attended the informal part on the occasion when he came to Vietnam to find the film background and meet the actors/actresses in the film Dong Mau Anh Hung . Different from other films, I am not requested for “casting” of each detail or a certain act but only by communication, they themselves discover something interesting that I have and appropriate to their character.
For the film content and my character, please allow me keep it in secret due to the obligations in the contract.
Contacting their working style, do you experience that they work professionally?
Their professionalism is not necessary to discuss. I saw that they worked professionally and methodically, similarly to a continuously operating machine which is accurate to the smallest detail. Their make-up team is extremely professional and the actors/actresses participated in the film are enthusiastically “taken” care. There was a good memory. To try whether I could be found or not between the large film studio as Shanghai , I took a ride around the film studio, however when needed they exactly call where I were.
During the filming process of Shanghai in Thailand, do you and Vu Thu Phuong meet and support each other in acting?
KY and Vu Thu Phuong have the share scene but in reality the role did not exceed our capacity so we did not have much chance to support each other!
As we know that, in the film, you also had the shared scene with Chau Nhuan Phat, there was any good memory between two of you?
The method of film production of Hollywood is very professional and when starting, everybody always focuses on their character and does not have much chance to communicate each other, even photograph while filming is also rare. For Chau Nhuan Phat, because I do not have much time to talk and contact him, the good memory is also not much. Except one small detail while filming the scene of bomb explosion, I fumbled due to the messy lace clothes and the big ear-ring, so it was usually thrown and tangled in, Chau Nhuan Phat sometimes looked and smiled!
It is possible to say that the door or the chance to play role in Hollywood film was opened. Therefore, another door or second door was opened?
As I said, I am an actress but at the present I am a businesswoman so I am very realistic for myself and do not fly in the sky. I think that the second door will open not only for me and Thu Phuong but for 8 to 10 other models, performers.
After Shanghai, I return to Vietnam and continue my managing duty and prepare for three other films. Those are Ambition (main character, my character will star from August 27); Universe Step (40 parts, main character, star in January 2009); Saigon force woman (37 parts)….
It seems that you are fairly tired and seedy, but why don’t you limit your work?
I don’t know why because I am a work-addicted person. Even during the time in hospital, the doctors advise me to take rest, I still manage the work from remote distance through the cellphone. (Whisper) If following the doctor directions, I have to take rest but I could not do that. Doctor ties his hands!
