A conner of Lynk Jewelry and Fashion Boutique
HF: You are familiar presence on magazine covers and celebrity websites, appearing in glamorous settings all around the world. What is your everyday life really like?
Ly Nha Ky: The public usually only see artists at their most gorgeous in magazines and have virtually no idea of their real life behind the scenes. I remember appearing in a magazine after Paris Fashion Week and someone wondered why my hair looked a bit tangled. It's simple - I had to wake up at 5am and attend various meetings in Paris all day. By the time I made it to the Fashion Week, my hair no longer stayed the same and beautiful. Whoever travels abroad with me might be frightened by how packed my schedule is, i.e. attending a party alongside meetings with business partners, thus leaving little time to take a break.
My greatest "leisure" is perhaps posing for photos. However, shooting can also be a challenge when you have to pose outdoors in frigid weather in skimpy outfits.
Your every move is followed by the public, but lately you've been keeping a much lower profile. What have you been doing that explains the pause from showbiz?
My pause in artistic activities was carefully thought out. My life is an endless unwinding path ahead and I always drive myself to conquer new off-beaten tracks. A greater focus on charities and social responsibility is also part of my path. The Lynk International Fashion Show 2014 that took place at the Palace of Unity on November 11, 2014 provides a glimpse of the new direction on my mind.
Why did you host the Lynk Fashion Show?
I have attended many fashion shows, from Asia to Europe, each of which always raised the question: Why can't I do this at home? I always believe that once Vietnam succeeds in hosting these major events, friends and visitors from throughout the world will take a greater interest in our national image, particularly the fashion community.
Of course, I have no ambition of making the next Paris Fashion Week or Milan Fashion Week. However, hopefully with all my efforts in this show, the international fashion community will pay a greater heed to the Vietnamese fashion market, which also contributes to promoting Vietnam overall. This ambition has helped me convince fashion houses, from Australia to the Netherlands, along with top-notch jewelry brands worldwide, to come to Vietnam.
I convinced them of Vietnam as a culturally rich country and potential market. My great happiness is that besides their attention to Vietnam, Peet Dullaert also paid heed to social activities in Vietnam as they donated an haute couture shirt worth 20,000 Euros to Vietnam Foundation for Education and Medicinal Development to put on auction.
You mentioned convincing fashion houses of Vietnam's cultural image. Was this the reason the Palace of Unity was chosen to be the venue of your show?
As you've seen, my fashion show featured lots of businessmen, European and Asian billionaires and 200 attendees who were all successful figures and artists of Vietnam. I want this to serve as an opportunity to promote a historically important site of Vietnam to the outside world. Director Viet Tu helped me open up new spaces in the Palace Unity, which both guaranteed the show's class and elegance and maintained the intact historical and culture essence of this site. I want to join people in promoting Vietnam as a culturally rich country on the way to development.
It seems you are still concerned with promoting Vietnam even though you stepped down from your position as a Tourist Ambassador?
It was perhaps deeply ingrained in my psyche and naturally became a passion. Whenever I attend an international event in which overseas guests and friends express their goodwill to Vietnam. I'm extremely proud. I want to continue to create new promotional channels to enhance their fondness of Vietnam.
With these many ambitions, how do you spare some time for your personal life?
I have no personal time left because all my time is spent on my business and works. Hence, it seems my personal desires are not yet fulfilled...
