‘Angel Face,’ a movie invested and co-produced by Vietnamese artist-turned-businesswoman Ly Nha Ky, will compete at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, organizers say.
The movie will be among 15 contenders for the festival’s Un Certain Regard (A Certain Glance) official selection, which is awarded to international films that tell their stories in non-traditional ways.
It is the second most important award at Cannes after the Palme d’Or (Golden Palm), as many past winners of Un Certain Regard also claimed the festival’s highest prize the same year.
‘Angel Face’ is directed by emerging director Vanessa Filho and stars Marion Cotillard, the only actress to ever have won an Academy Award for a French-speaking role.
Ly Nha Ky, who invested in and co-produced the movie, expressed her happiness to learn that her first international film project had been a success.
The Vietnamese businesswoman has worked on the project since her meeting with Marc Missonnier, a well-known producer in the global entertainment industry.
Ky is also known for her work as a regular sponsor for the Cannes Film Festival’ Cinéfondation, which provides financial support to young talents in international cinema.
The former model and actress runs a company that sponsored Vietnam’s promotional campaign at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.

At the upcoming 2018 Cannes Film Festival, Ky will for the first time walk the red carpet as a film producer.
‘Angel Face’ is expected to hit cinemas worldwide following its premiere at the film festival.
“Cannes is a wonderful place to see where Vietnam stands in international cinema, which would enable me to seek a different, more positive direction in the future,” Ky said.
“However, it is important to emphasize that this is just the beginning. There is still a lot of hard work to be done for me to become an investor and producer in the international market,” she added.
The 71st edition of the Cannes Film Festival will be held from May 8 to 19 in the city of Cannes in southern France.
Eighteen films will compete for the Palme d’Or, the festival’s highest prize and considered one of the most prestigious awards in the film industry.
