Not many people know that her real name is Tran Thi Thanh Nhan. She did explain the meaning of the name, but to us she was always the one and only, the fancy Ly Nha Ky. “My real name is Tran Thi Thanh Nhan. For Ly Nha Ky, Ly was my dad’s name (who has passed away), Nha is a continuation from my name, and Ky is for all the wonders that have happened in my life!”
Not all of us think that under a beautiful name like hers, there is such a wonderful and meaningful story.

Start with fate and a burning ambition
The year 2006, the public welcomed a brand new face in showbiz. Gradually, the name Ly Nha Ky became a household name with her constant appearances in Love Prevails, Love story, Jealous… But not everyone was well familiar with her name, because like a phenomenon, she just came out of nowhere.
And like a bright but quickly fading star, her name was lost in the mid showbiz, until her life-changing role in The Beauty and the Wealthy by director Nguyen Duy Vo Ngoc. With this role, she truly shined through and proved her talent. From that point, her name was once again back in the spotlight of not just the public, the media, but also the critics. She could not help herself every time she recalled past memories: “It was a surprise, and wonder just like the meaning of my name”.
To her, the art of performing was truly an unexpected turn. Her entire family could not come from a more humble beginning, from a small and far away town in Ba Ria – Vung Tau. Much hardness in life seemed to be all over her and the bright future was nowhere to be seen. But just a few years later, this girl is proudly walking down the red carpet like a super star. Not only to her, but even we could not expect such turn in life, couldn’t we?”

From a small town girl, Ly Nha Ky quickly rose to stardom in the entertainment industry. From 2009 to 2012, she constantly worked in many big projects in both television and film. Successfully entering the entertainment world by acting, Ly Nha Ky knew that she was destined to be in art. Art was the field where she could live according to her ambition and dream, and more importantly where she could put away doubts and fear about what fate had in store for her.
Making the impossible possible, Ly Nha Ky’s life put much weight on the saying “There is no road available to you, you just have to make your own from a tiny trail”. And the road she was on was surely full of unexpected turns named “wonder”. One of them was in May 2011 when she took a step out of her comfort zone and took part in the play General Vo Nguyen Giap and the Symphony of Dien Bien despite the fact that she did not have any professional training.
In this play, Ly Nha Ky played General Do Cat’s girlfriend. It was a story about the liberation of Dien Bien Phu, with emphasis on the great strategic minds of President Ho, the Government and the one who was the military leader of the time General Vo Nguyen Giap that led to one of the most famous battles in the world. As a play with immense meaning in politic and culture of Vietnam, there could not be a greater starting role for Ly Nha Ky. This play brought her name to a higher level in her performing career and fame.
You work your way to perfection
In a span of less than 10 years, after many wonderful turns of event that to Ly Nha Ky they were absolutely unexpected and impossible, she barely could believe in the life she had then. It was full of glory, more wealth, pride, and happiness for the family to see the their youngest little girl have achieved this much from nothing.

Ly Nha Ky did not come from wealth and power, but she had the gut to make them by herself. As a brand new face in the industry, she did anything she could to be in that spotlight everywhere she went. No one would expect a girl with no experience, no relations would take the lead and became a brand representatives – something was still not common among Vietnamese artists at the time. To the public, it is hard to not notice her in her new role as a spokesperson. At first, they weren’t all fond of the new strategy, but after 5 years, no one would deny her inner strength to push through and constantly make headlines.
Life is a constant search for improvement of everything we have
First of all, she has gotten herself many great connections with powerful people in the world: “her diamond mom”, “her media sister”, and “her precious gems brother”… When those relationships first hit the news, many were unhappy and in doubt because there was no one prior to her that has achieved such a thing in their entire career. But quickly we realized life is a constant search for improvement of everything we have. Everyone has the right to do it, and Ly Nha Ky was just one of the most successful ones.
Live slow with a further vision
For a while, for being more mature or any other factor, Ly Nha Ky of today is living slow with a further vision. Being away from the spotlight and the crowded fanfare, she transforms all her energy to different purposes. No longer making headlines with shocking news, she is now resurfacing as a matured woman with experiences. She starts her own business, expands her personal brand, and actively takes parts in social projects in and outside the country. Her image is not only defined within the border, but has reach international recognition, even places with no trails of any Vietnamese.
It is not hard to understand why so many people hated her, talk bad about her. If her beginning was not as humble as it was, and If she did not chose to be a public figure, she wouldn’t be in the middle of two completely opposite opinions about her. But she promised herself not to forget the glory, the wealth, and the fame of today were due to her years and years in poverty. She chose this path, she knew that they were coming at her with affection or hatred. The important thing was to never loose her voice amid the crowd.
Sometimes, it just put a smile of her face when she recalls her glorious eventful life. The spotlight always makes her wonder about what is called fate. And to her, this life is full of wonders and the unexpected just like the meaning of her name.
